this is a fun site that allows you to stage a fake phone call to get you out of tricky situations. Two NYU students came up with this handy tool that has a pre-recoded voice call you to let you pretend you're engaging in a realistic conversation. I think I remember it was featured on NPR in the US.

not so sure of the value here, but I thought it was an interesting concept. The ibrella is an umbrella interface to your i-pod. You can control various things on the device by interacting with the umbrella, such as opening it to play, shaking to skip etc.
